Forgetful February

February is a blur.  Where did it go?  I don't know and honestly I don't care.  Tomorrow is March.  And that means spring is on the way.  The weather will tease me more than I'd like, but in March, the globe willows will show their spring green color first and the forsythia will begin to shine its yellow blooms.  I'm hoping that this March will be a little lighter on the world drama than last March.  Please, for heaven's sake, I can't handle any more anxiety inducing events.  Pandemic.  Earthquake.  Food and toilet paper shortage.  Let's ease into spring with just daffodils and rainy days.

So, what was I up to in February?  Well, one thing is that I got all worked up about my first college paper, and it took me forever to get it going and finally finish it.  It's only been 27+ years since I've written one.  I had a quote in mind to use for part of my paper, but I wanted to find the source.  It was something I remembered hearing in a Ricks College devotional about 30 years ago.  Transcripts of the devotional talks are non existent, but I did find all of the audio recordings of them.  So while sitting under my heated blanket in the office and hand stitching my little Christmas birds, I listened to almost every single one of them from the fall of 1990 to the spring of 1992.

And finally after a few days, I found it.  It was in a talk given by George Durrant in the winter semester of 1991.  "If you're not doing anything that scares you right now, then you're a dud.  You oughta be steppin' out into some areas that really scare you."  Haha! "A dud"! That's not how I remember the quote!  What has been going through my head for years is "If you're not doing something that scares you, then you aren't growing."  That has always been my take-away.  But the real quote is what I was looking for, so I used it.  I'm happy I finally found it.  I am doing something that scares me.  School scares me.  And that's okay that it does.  I must be growing.  And I guess I'm not a dud!

After doing a little more research and thinking and stewing, my sister Kristen was the one to get me to start typing and get it done.  She told me to just think of it like writing a well organized church talk.   Okay.  I can do that.  So I did.  And I think it turned out pretty good.

Matt and Megan both had birthdays this month.  I found a garden nursery that looked pretty cool in the Lancaster area, so I surprised her with a gift card to it.  I knew she'd like that a lot.  I had no idea what to give Matt for his birthday.  After texting with Chelsea about my small dilemma, she said I should give him a bonsai tree.  I went out on a limb (haha) and gave him a Hawaiian umbrella bonsai from Sun River Gardens.  It was totally unexpected, and he loved it.  He is in the process of pruning and repotting it.

And he got himself a new car.  A Subaru Crosstrek.  He's never leased before until now.  So this is his for the next three years.  Obviously this is a pic off of the internet, but it's the same color.  Plasma yellow.

One morning, I invited my sweet South Jordan friend, Rebecca, down to Provo to walk with me.  It was fun to be with her again and have a good, long talk while walking the foothills and around the temple.

Good-bye February.
