On our last morning with Rising Star Outreach, we visited an orphanage to play with the children for a couple of hours. This orphanage is not affiliated with RSO. We needed something to do that day since it was Good Friday which is an observed holiday in this region of India. We weren't able to do medical service at the colonies or tutor at the school because of the holiday. But kids in orphanages always need playmates. So that is where we went.
Here are some video clips of that experience.
This first one is of kids who wanted to be on camera so that they could watch themselves dance afterwards.
Girls all over the world like to do little circle dances. I loved watching these girls and hearing them sing. When they realized I had recorded them, they were so excited to watch it play back.
More fun on the playground.
They put on a little dance performance for us. I soaked it all in knowing that this was a once in a lifetime experience. It was surreal sitting in a rural India orphanage watching this. The first clip is of some of the older girls.
Then some of the little girls joined in.
Boys will be boys! These guys had to play it cool.
Then, at the end, the leader of the orphanage invited all of us Rising Star volunteers to join in dancing with all of the kids. I could kick myself for turning off my camera! There were 15 of us volunteers and about 25 children. Dancing to the indian music with the children was so awesome! I had the best time!
I gotta share a pic of this little old lady who came and sat on the front step of the orphanage. Oh, she was so beautiful!

To see how beautiful and happy they are even in an orphanage is overwhelming. What a life changing experience. I can see how you would tear up at the grocery store! We are so blessed and often forget!
